When trying to select hair care products, we all have so many options to choose from. Trying to navigate which ones are best for you can be overwhelming. Here are a few oils that you should make sure are included in your hair care regimen. Be sure to take a look at our list of products and/or ingredients to avoid as well.
Avocado Oil is particularly great for natural hair. It’s loaded with nutrients, amino acids, essential fatty acids, as well as vitamins A, B, D, and E. And it’s excellent for moisturizing, deep conditioning, improving hair strength, strengthening hair, and boosting shine.
Castor Oil - Applying fats like castor oil to the hair on a regular basis helps lubricate the hair shaft, increasing flexibility and decreasing the chance of breakage. Castor oil may benefit those who experience dandruff, a common scalp condition characterized by dry, flaky skin on the head. Just remember that applying too much Castor Oil directly to your scalp can block your pores…a little goes a long way! Castor Oil thickens hair, promotes hair growth, prevents thinning, moisturizes, helps reduce split ends, helps to tame frizz, and prevents scalp infections.
Coconut Oil is great for preventing dandruff, promoting hair growth, moisturizing, strengthening hair, thickening hair, and preventing damage.
Olive Oil (Organic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil) - I LOVE using Olive Oil, which is also referred to as the “godmother of hair oil,” on my hair. It is great for moisturizing, deep conditioning, improving hair strength, eliminating dandruff, and also has powerful antioxidants that can help fight hair loss.
Jojoba Oil has so many benefits and science doesn't lie! The studies and industry experts agree that Jojoba Oil is almost identical to human sebum. It mimics the oil naturally produced by the sebaceous glands of your skin, making it a reparative ingredient for a compromised moisture barrier. It's fair to say that Jojoba delivers hydration to strands without disrupting your scalp's natural pH balance. Similarly, Jojoba Oil will not cause your scalp to produce more or less of its own oil, so you can expect it to moisturize hair without leaving it overly greasy. Jojoba is rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish hair, including vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, copper, and zinc. Because it strengthens hair, it is also thought that Jojoba Oil can prevent hair loss and promote hair thickness. By far my favorite oil for a healthy hair care regimen!
Rosemary Oil is great for stimulating hair follicles for hair growth, preventing hair loss and greying, preventing dandruff, strengthening hair, and boosting shine.
Safflower Oil protects hair, nourishes hair follicles, moisturizes, and stimulates blood circulation to promote hair growth and thickness. And it is extremely beneficial for natural as well as dry chemically treated hair.
Sweet Almond Oil works great as a “sealant.” This means that it “locks-in” moisture. Sweet almond oil also nourishes hair, smoothes hair cuticles to control shedding, promotes hair growth and thickness, prevents hair loss, and boosts shine.
Sesame Seed Oil acts as a natural sunscreen for your hair and protects from harmful UV rays. Natural healing oil full of antibacterial properties; great for healing scalp infections and fungus. Great for adding shine to your hair. Strengthens the root and hair shaft by nourishing it, leading to less breakage. Is known to darken hair, so it can be helpful for anyone with grays. Prevents harmful environmental pollutants. Nourishes the scalp to prevent dandruff.
